Curriculum
Curriculum development accommodates the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy launched by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, which is a framework for preparing students to become competent scholars, relevant to the current needs and ready to become leaders with a strong national spirit. The Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 3 of 2020 gives students the right to study outside their program for 3 semesters. Through this program, there is a vast opportunity for students to enrich and improve their insights and competencies in the real world according to their enthusiasm and aspirations. Referring to the book "Guidelines for Preparing the Higher Education Curriculum in the Industrial Era 4.0 to Support Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka" and the book "Guidelines for Deconstructing and Preparing the Universitas Sumatera Utara Higher Education Curriculum with an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Approach and Implementing Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka" and the USU Rector's Regulation, learning activities at Universitas Sumatera Utara can be categorized as follows:
- Learning activities carried out in related study programs at the university;
- Learning activities carried out in different study programs within the Universitas Sumatera Utara (implementation of MBKM);
- Learning activities carried out in the same study program at other universities, both domestic and abroad (MBKM implementation);
- Learning activities carried out in different study programs at other universities, both domestic and abroad (implementation of MBKM);
- Learning at non-university institutions, both domestic and abroad (MBKM implementation).
Based on these five forms of learning activities, three patterns can be adopted by all undergraduate programs at the Universitas Sumatera Utara that are targeted for implementing the MBKM program, consisting of the 8-0-0, 5-2-1, and 6-1-1 patterns. The three patterns are described as follows:
- 8-0-0: Learning activities carried out during 8 semesters in the university.
- 5-2-1: Learning activities carried out for 5 semesters inside the university, 2 semesters outside the university, and 1 semester back to learning activities inside the university.
- 6-1-1: Learning activities carried out for 6 semesters inside and 2 semesters outside the university.
With 141 comprehensively structured courses, including the undergraduate thesis and various concentrations from the 1st to the 8th semester, the USU Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering ensures that each student receives an education that is not only of excellent quality but also relevant and responsive to the dynamics of current industry needs. Each element of the curriculum is designed with deep consideration to prepare graduates who are ready to face challenges in the workplace and can provide innovative solutions in electrical engineering. Here, you are invited to build a career based on actual and applicable knowledge.
