Salam Sehat, FT Hebat!

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah SWT who always bestows His grace, guidance, and guidance so that the preparation of the website for the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara can be completed properly. In the era of rapid development of information technology, the existence of a website is considered very important and has strategic value to introduce the Faculty of Engineering (FT) to the public and related stakeholders. The creation of the FT USU website is intended as a guide for the implementation and development of higher education in engineering through seven departments within FT USU, namely Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Architecture, and Environmental Engineering.

In addition, there are two professional programs within FT USU, namely Architect Professional Education (PPAr) and Engineer Professional Education (PSPPI). FT USU also describes the physical infrastructure and administrative information that supports the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education.

The preparation of the FT USU website is motivated by the desire to introduce and inform the current conditions and situation at the USU Faculty of Engineering so that it is expected to encourage more cooperation with various parties in the future. Hopefully, with this FT USU website, there will be good communication between the Faculty of Engineering and all stakeholders and anyone who wants to know more about the Faculty of Engineering, and provide benefits to the educational community and society as a whole.

Laboratory of Design Engineering laboratorium

The Design Engineering Laboratory is one of the core facilities of the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara, serving as a learning and practical hub in the field of engineering design. Established by Ir. Hasan Basri Siregar, the laboratory was formerly known as the Audio-Visual Studio and Technical Drawing Laboratory before being renamed in 2023. Alongside technological advancements, its manual drawing methods have evolved into digital design practices using SolidWorks software. The laboratory aims to equip students with the ability to create and model engineering components accurately, forming a strong foundation for modern industrial engineering applications.

Research Center for Bio-energy and Fuel Cell Systems penelitian-pengembangan

The Research Center for Bio-energy and Fuel Cell Systems was established in 2018 by Dr.Eng. Ir. Taufiq Bin Nur, S.T., M.Eng.Sc. This research center is located on the first floor of the Master’s Program in Mechanical Engineering Building, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Those who have been members of this research center since its inception are 38 undergraduate and postgraduate students, collaborating with several Mechanical Engineering lecturers and cross-departments. The focus of research conducted in this research center is studies related to bio-energy and fuel cell systems.


The results of the work of the Bio-energy and Fuel Cell Systems Research Center include pyrolysis systems, combustion furnaces, bioethanol production, distillation devices for bioethanol purification, machines for studying alternative fuel yields, organic rankine cycles to convert wasted heat into usable power, and energy monitoring tools for energy audits. The center also has tools to be tested, such as material modification in collaboration with the European company Pyropower. Currently, the center will study biomass pyrolysis to produce hydrogen.

Water Quality Laboratory laboratorium

The Water Quality Laboratory at the Undergraduate Program in Environmental Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, is a vital facility supporting academic learning and research focused on the physical, chemical, and biological analysis of water. This laboratory plays a key role in equipping students with the ability to assess water characteristics and pollution parameters, as well as evaluate water suitability for various uses, from drinking water to wastewater.
