About the Faculty of Engineering
Universitas Sumatera Utara

Established in 1959 as the 4th faculty at the Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Faculty of Engineering USU has developed and has 7 Bachelor programs, 6 Master programs, 5 Doctoral programs and 2 Professional programs, each of which has good accreditation. In organizing educational activities and aiming to produce experts in the field of engineering science, FT USU provides adequate facilities and provides the best quality in learning by collaborating with experts and educators who are competent in their fields.

Faculty History

1959

September 1, 1959 was the beginning of the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering USU after the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 83303 / S dated August 26, 1959 on the preparation of the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering in Medan under the banner of the Universitas Sumatera Utara starting September 1, 1959 as the 4th faculty.

1962

In the early stages of its establishment, the Faculty of Engineering only nurtured one department, namely the Civil Engineering Department. With the increasing need for engineering graduates in various fields in accordance with the demands of development, the USU Faculty of Engineering then opened new departments; Mechanical Engineering (1962), Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (1965), Chemical Engineering (1979), Architectural Engineering (1991) and Environmental Engineering (2012).

2000

Recognizing the development of engineering graduates who continue to increase, both in number and quality, since 2000 the Faculty of Engineering USU has had a Masters Program (S2) for Study Programs; S2 Chemical Engineering, S2 Mechanical Engineering, S2 Civil Engineering and S2 Architectural Engineering. Followed by S2 Industrial Engineering (2002) and S2 Electrical Engineering (2007). For the Doctoral Program (S3) with Study Programs S3 Mechanical Engineering, S3 Industrial Engineering, S3 Architectural Engineering, S3 Chemical Engineering and S3 Civil Engineering.

2017

The USU Faculty of Engineering does not stop there, it also opens programs for professional development, including the Architect Professional Education Program (PPAr) (2006) and the Professional Engineer Education Study Program (PS PPI) (2017).

2023

Today, the Faculty of Engineering has become a leading Faculty of Engineering in North Sumatra that has produced hundreds of competent and qualified graduates, conducted a series of national and international level research, and served the community by providing complete services.
