Description
The Metal and Non-Metal Engineering Materials Laboratory of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) serves as a center for hands-on learning and experimental studies in materials science. This laboratory is designed to enable students to apply theoretical knowledge from material science courses through direct interaction with equipment, data collection, research activities, and academic consultation.
Practicum activities are divided into two core courses and include five main testing modules: tensile testing, three-point bending, compression testing, deflection testing, and torsion testing. In addition, students conduct supplementary experiments such as impact testing, metallography, hardness testing, hardenability testing, and heat treatment processes.
Equipped with comprehensive tools and facilities, the laboratory supports the technical and analytical skill development of students in understanding the mechanical properties and microstructures of both metallic and non-metallic materials.
