Description
The Telematics Laboratory is one of the teaching and research laboratories under the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, with a primary focus on Telecommunication Engineering. This laboratory supports hands-on learning and research activities in the following courses:
Telecommunication Networks (TEE2204)
Cloud Computing and IoT (TEE3218)
Switching Techniques (TEE3229)
Wireless Sensor Networks (TEE3232)
The Telematics Laboratory was established in 2009 as a result of the division of the original Basic Telecommunication Laboratory into three specialized labs: Dastel Lab (Basic Telecom), Telkom 1 Lab (Antenna), and Telkom 2 Lab (Telematics). The foundation of this laboratory began with a crossbar switching module developed by one of the faculty members.
In the following years, the lab expanded its capacity by integrating computers for Data Network practicum and acquiring analog and digital exchange modules from Italy in 2012, which are still actively used today.
Currently, the Telematics Laboratory is equipped with several key training modules, including:
B4620 Telephone Switching System Trainer
B4622B Digital Exchange Trainer
B4510 Transmission Line Trainer
B4530 Fiber Optic Line Trainer
B4200A AM/DB Transmitter
This laboratory not only serves academic practicum needs but also plays an important role in research related to telecommunication networks, switching systems, and modern communication technologies involving IoT and sensor networks.
