Profile

Ir. Muhammad Zulfin, M.T is a lecturer of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, Telecommunication Engineering Concentration, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara. He holds the position of Associate Professor (Lektor Kepala) with the rank of Pembina IVb. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara in 1988 and began his academic career as a lecturer in 1991. He then pursued a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunication Engineering) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), graduating in 1996.

As an academic, he teaches several core courses in telecommunications. In odd semesters, he lectures on Telecommunication Systems, Telecommunication Standards and Regulations, and Satellite Communication. In even semesters, he teaches Telecommunication Networks, Basic Electronics, and Switching Techniques. His primary research interest is in Switching Techniques, a vital field within telecommunication engineering. In addition, he serves as Head of the Basic Telecommunication Laboratory, which supports practicum sessions in Telecommunication Systems for third-semester students from all concentrations.

Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Muhammad Zulfin has been actively involved in institutional and professional activities, including serving as Head of the Internal Quality Assurance Team (GKM) of the Electrical Engineering Program (2020–2021), BKD assessor for the Faculty of Engineering, and Internal Quality Auditor for USU AMI Cycle 13 (2020). He has also contributed as a member of accreditation and curriculum revision committees, the international ELTICOM conference committee, and the disciplinary commission. Notably, in 2015–2016, he led the accreditation task force that successfully secured an “A” accreditation for the Electrical Engineering Program for the first time. His dedication was further recognized by the Government of Indonesia with the Satya Lancana Karya Satya 30-Year Award in 2024. Currently, he is finalizing his lecture notes to be published as textbooks, contributing further to the academic development of telecommunication engineering.
