Suherman has worked as a lecturer at Universitas Sumatera Utara since 2003. He completed a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2000, an M.Sc. in Computing from RMIT Australia in 2009, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from DMU-UK in 2013. He followed some non-degree courses: Mobile Communication at Ilmenau, Germany (2010) and Bioinformatics in EBI-Cambridge, UK (2011). In 2022, he pursued an online M.Sc. program in Financial Engineering from WorldQuant University, New Orleans, USA.
