The Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) held by the Student Association of the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara (HMI FKM USU) occurred on February 21, 2018.
To determine the winner, the finalists had to present their scientific papers in front of three judges who were also lecturers at FKM USU. The purpose of this activity is to increase students' knowledge and insight academically, supporting the knowledge gained in lectures. It also aims to increase interest in scientific writing and critical thinking about health issues and instill the spirit of students as "agents of change."

After going through discussions and assessments by the jury, the first winner was Billy Dimas Anggoro from Chemical Engineering USU with the title of his scientific work "MISTER (Mini Smart Biofilter): Innovation of a Tool to Convert Yellow Well Water into Clean Water by Utilizing Natural Activated Carbon Filters from Cocoa Skin Waste."
