Medan, 22 July 2026 – The Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted a working visit to the Faculty of Engineering, USU as part of its academic monitoring activities. The visit focused on reviewing institutional documents, academic programs, and various aspects of educational management within the faculty.
The activity was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T.; the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rosdanelli Hasibuan, M.T.; the Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure, Ir. Muhammad Agung Putra Handana, S.T., M.T.; heads and secretaries of academic programs; expert staff; and heads of administrative subdivisions within the faculty.
The Academic Senate delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Drs. Budi Agustono, M.S., Chair of the Academic Senate. It included Prof. Dr. Dwi Suryanto, M.Sc. (Chair of Commission A), Prof. drg. Sondang Pintauli, Ph.D., FISDPH., FISPD. (Secretary of Commission A), Prof. Ir. Nazaruddin, M.T., Ph.D. (Chair of Commission B), Prof. Dr. Erman Munir, M.Sc. (Chair of Commission C), and Prof. Ir. Nurlisa Ginting, M.Sc. (Secretary of Commission D).
The monitoring covered a wide range of academic and institutional areas, including the Strategic Plan, Research Master Plan, and Community Service Master Plan; recognition of final projects as alternatives to undergraduate theses; Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curricula for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs; international classes; national and international accreditation; fast-track programs; and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The review also encompassed university compulsory courses, student affairs, partnerships and publications, as well as budget planning.
By examining the faculty's strategic documents and academic programs, the visit provided an opportunity for both the Faculty of Engineering and the Academic Senate to assess institutional readiness and identify areas requiring further improvement. As the monitoring process is still underway, no final evaluation results or recommendations have been issued. The visit therefore serves as an important stage in the University's ongoing academic evaluation and governance process.
This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening institutional oversight, accountability, and governance. It also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education through the evaluation of curricula, accreditation, academic programs, student affairs, and other components that support educational excellence. In addition, the activity advances SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration and strengthening synergy between the Academic Senate and the Faculty of Engineering in advancing education, research, and community engagement.
The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to continuously strengthening academic governance, quality assurance, and institutional evaluation. Through close collaboration with the Academic Senate, the faculty aims to enhance the delivery of engineering education that is accountable, strategically aligned, and responsive to the University's development priorities and the broader goals of sustainable development.
