Medan, August 15, 2026 — The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), in collaboration with the Young Engineers Forum of the Indonesian Engineers Association of North Sumatra (FIM PII Sumut), held AI Bootcamp 2026 at the Civil Engineering Smart Classroom, FT USU. The event report recorded 35 registered participants from students, members of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), FIM PII Sumut administrators, FT USU, and the general public.
The opening session featured remarks from Organizing Committee Chair Muhammad Ridho Abidin Damanik, S.Kom.; FIM PII Sumut Chair Ir. Muhammad Rizki Fadillah, S.T.; and a keynote speech by PII Sumut Chair Dr. Ir. Ahmad Perwira Mulia Tarigan, M.Sc., IPU. The event also featured Fakhruddin Rizal Batubara, S.T., M.TI., as the tutor for the AI learning session.
Representatives from FT USU in attendance included Head of the Undergraduate Program in Civil Engineering Dr. Ir. Ika Puji Hastuty, S.T., M.T., IPM.; Secretary of the Undergraduate Program in Civil Engineering Ir. Ivan Indrawan, S.T., M.T.; Secretary of the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Civil Engineering Dr. Ir. M. Ridwan Anas, S.T., M.T.; Civil Engineering lecturer Ir. Indra Jaya, S.T., M.T., IPM.; and Dr. Eng. Ir. Listiani Nurul Huda, M.T., IPU.
The bootcamp covered an introduction to Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering for effective AI interaction, the use of AI for productivity, research, and professional work, AI agents and workflow automation, as well as a hands-on project to develop an AI-based workflow. The structure of the program combined conceptual understanding with practical application of AI technologies.
The activity primarily supports SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening digital literacy and technology-based learning. It is also relevant to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the introduction of AI and automation technologies, as well as SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between FT USU and FIM PII Sumut.
