The Undergraduate Program in Environmental Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully held an Alumni Gathering on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Faculty of Engineering Hall. The event was chaired by Meidina Zulfa Hanie, S.T., M.T., an alumnus of the first cohort in 2012 and a permanent lecturer in the Environmental Engineering Program. She highlighted that this gathering is part of the initiatives of USU’s Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships aimed at strengthening connections and collaborations between the program, USU, and its alumni.


The event was officially opened by the Head of the Environmental Engineering Program, Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and commenced with a fun walk and a campus tour. The tour route included the Faculty of Engineering Hall, the New Building of the Environmental Engineering Program, the Old Building of Environmental Engineering, the Environmental Engineering Pavilion, and returned to the hall. Following this, interactive games were conducted to foster strong bonds among faculty members, alumni, and students, aligning with the theme "Unbreakable Bond."


Additionally, the gathering featured a talk show themed "Multisector Collaboration Involving the Environmental Engineering Program and Alumni for Sustainable Environmental Management." Speakers included Ir. Alvi Syahriza, M.Eng. (Chairman of the USU Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association 2023–2027), Isra’ Suryati, S.T., M.T. (Environmental Engineering Program Lecturer), Cristo Mori Romario M. (Representative from the Environmental Agency of Deli Serdang Regency), Muhammad Yani Alan Nuary (Representative from Aksata Pangan), and Mutiara Tria Ningsih (Green Justice Indonesia). The event moderator, Dr. Adri Huda, S.Si., concluded that the Alumni Gathering serves as an essential platform for building cross-sector collaborations to address environmental management challenges holistically.


The event was also attended by Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Renita Manurung, M.T., representing the Dean, the Chairman of the Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association, lecturers, staff, active students of Environmental Engineering, and alumni representatives from the 2012 to 2018 cohorts. Alumni business units, such as Aksata Pangan, Sekolah Alam Johor Islamic School, Creativads, PT Berkibar Nirwasita Karsa, and Plastic Wise Community, also participated. The Alumni Gathering concluded with presentations from alumni business units, entertainment from the Environmental Engineering band, a lucky draw, and a communal lunch attended by all participants.
