On August 3, 2026, Tasya Sirait, a student of the Undergraduate Program in Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), was selected as one of three National Representatives to represent Indonesia at the ARCASIA Thesis of the Year (TOY) 2026 in India. The selection marks an academic achievement that places a student's work from FT USU in an architecture competition at the Asian level.
Her work, titled RASAMARA HUB, was developed under the supervision of Dr. Ir. Ar. Achmad Delianur Nasution, S.T., M.T., IAI., AA., IAP., GP. The design proposes a community center based on bamboo architecture, with the zero-carbon principle serving as one of its design orientations.
ARCASIA TOY 2026 is an international platform recognizing outstanding final-year architecture projects by students from member countries of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA). Under the theme “Bringing Back… Vernacular Wisdom,” the competition encourages participants to reinterpret local wisdom, traditional materials, and sustainable approaches into climate-responsive architectural solutions for the future.
According to the event information, the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) also participated in the competition series, with the international judging process held on July 25, 2026. The culmination of the event is scheduled to take place alongside the 23rd ARCASIA Forum in India in September 2026, providing RASAMARA HUB with an opportunity for presentation and knowledge exchange at the international level.
The achievement is most strongly aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education through the students' learning process, academic supervision, and participation in an international competition. The bamboo-based community center concept and zero-carbon orientation also have potential relevance to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 13: Climate Action, without implying that the design has been constructed or resulted in measurable emissions reductions.
This achievement underscores FT USU’s commitment to strengthening architectural education that promotes creativity, sensitivity to local culture, and environmental responsibility. The faculty will continue to support student work and academic supervision that create opportunities for contributions to sustainable development at both national and international levels.
