Currently, English plays a crucial role in daily life, especially in the workplace. Chemical Engineering graduates are required to master English to compete with other graduates, both regionally and internationally. The Chemical Engineering Student Association (HIMATEK) USU formed CEES to face this real challenge.
The Chemical Engineering English Society (CEES) is a forum for a group of students in Chemical Engineering USU who have the desire to improve their English language skills. CEES provides a social environment for chemical engineering students to deepen and train their English language and critical thinking skills. CEES prioritizes understanding of current issues, whether about industry, economics, or social issues. Various activities organized by CEES include general discussions, debates, and speeches so that students will not miss important information that supports their scientific knowledge, especially in the field of chemical engineering.
Students will participate in open arguments on various topics, including, but not limited to, chemical engineering. In doing so, students will enrich their English and public speaking skills as well as their general knowledge.
CEES membership is open to all chemical engineering students. CEES activities are held every Saturday starting at 09.00 WIB at the Chemical Engineering Pendopo. This activity was initiated by Athir Muhammad Fakhar, a 2015 student, after appearing as a finalist in the Debate Competition event with his seniors Gilang Ramadhan Hutauruk (2013 class) and Oktavianna Winda (2014 class). This achievement was engraved at the Indonesian Chemical Engineering Challenge (IChEC) 2017, organized by the Chemical Engineering Student Association ITB in February 2017.
