Lecturers from USU's Faculty of Engineering conducted a community service project in Papan, Perak, Malaysia to revitalize Rumah Besar Raja Bilah. The program, in collaboration with UiTM and the Perak Heritage Society, aims to preserve the shared cultural heritage of Indonesia and Malaysia.

On June 29, 2025, Architecture lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Dr. Salmina Wati Ginting, S.T., M.T. and Isnen Fitri, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., held a community service (ABDIMAS) activity in Papan, Perak, Malaysia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Built Environment, UiTM and the Perak Heritage Society (PHS).

The event was also attended by lecturers from UiTM, members of PHS, and direct descendants of Raja Bilah. The program carried the theme:
"Reviving an Interconnected History: A Community Service Program to Reconnect and Preserve Indonesia's Cultural Heritage in Malaysia."

Rumah Besar Raja Bilah was chosen as the focal site due to its historical significance in reflecting the deep-rooted ties between Indonesia and Malaysia since the 1700s. In addition to the Mandailing community, Minangkabau and Acehnese groups also contributed to shaping the early development of cities in Malaysia.
