Debriefing Program for New Students of USU Chemical Engineering Academic Year 2018/2019 took place on September 06, 2018 at the Hall of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The event began at 08.00 WIB which was opened by the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Mrs. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM. This activity aims to introduce the field of Chemical Engineering to new students.

The first session featured Ir. Herbun Darlin who is an Alumni of USU Chemical Engineering class of 1980 who delivered material about alumni. Then continued by Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T. who presented material about the introduction of chemical engineering. To provide a broader insight to new students, Technopreneurship material presented by Mrs. Ir. Lilis Sukeksi, M.Sc., Ph.D. The last presentation about the Student Creativity Program (PKM) and the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) was delivered by Mrs. Erni Misran, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.

After the break, new students were divided into four groups based on their class. Two classes in parallel were guided by Mrs. Erni Misran, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. and Dr.Eng. Rondang Tambun, S.T., M.T. Students are directed to actively think and express opinions. They were challenged to convey creative ideas that could be developed for submitting PKM proposals. From this activity, there were groups of students who proposed themes related to research, service, and equipment manufacturing which will be followed up with guidance on making PKM proposals.

Meanwhile, the other two classes in parallel were invited to tour the USU Chemical Engineering learning environment such as classrooms, pavilions, and laboratories. In this laboratory introduction, the new students visited three laboratories, namely the Ecology Laboratory, Chemical Industry Process (PIK), and Chemical Engineering Operations (OTK). The laboratory assistants explained the use of several tools available in each laboratory and allowed new students to ask any questions related to the laboratory.

After that, the new students returned to the Engineering Hall to continue the last series of events, which were performances from each class to build solidarity among them. Based on the results of the judging team's assessment, the best performance was achieved by USU Chemical Engineering Class D Batch 2018. The best performers received attractive gift packages as congratulations. The event was closed with a photo activity with all organizers and new USU Chemical Engineering students.
