A team of lecturers from the USU Faculty of Engineering conducted a Community Service program at Ibnu Sina Mosque, SMAN 1 Medan, through digital modeling for energy efficiency design. The program aims to enhance teachers’ and students’ understanding of clean and sustainable energy aligned with SDGs Goal 7.

This Community Service (PkM) activity was carried out by a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), consisting of Mohammad Dolok Lubis, S.T., M.Sc.; Ir. Hilma Tamiami Fachrudin, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., GP; Yulesta Putra, S.T., M.Sc.; and Amy Marisa, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. The program adopted the theme “Digital Modeling Design for Energy Efficiency at Ibnu Sina Mosque, SMAN 1 Medan.”

Ibnu Sina Mosque is one of the supporting facilities at SMAN 1 Medan and also serves as the venue for activities organized by BAKMISS (Badan Kemakmuran Masjid Ibnu Sina Smansa Medan). The mosque functions not only as a place of worship for students, teachers, and school staff but also as a center for religious activities and character development.

The program began with a comprehensive survey of the Ibnu Sina Mosque building at SMAN 1 Medan, including measurements of the toilet area, ablution space, interior, and exterior of the building. Subsequently, the implementing team planned digital modeling based on the collected measurement data. This digital model will serve as a reference for implementing energy efficiency measures in the building.

The next stage involved the planning process, which produced design drawings used to calculate energy efficiency requirements. After the calculations were conducted on the digital model or existing design drawings, the results and configurations were incorporated into the digital model for further analysis.

This Community Service activity aims to apply and develop science and technology (IPTEKS) by strengthening the knowledge, insights, and theoretical understanding of energy efficiency among teachers and students of SMAN 1 Medan. The activity was carried out in the form of a digital modeling design training session.

Through this training, teachers and students of SMAN 1 Medan are expected to enhance their awareness of the importance of knowledge and theories related to energy efficiency. This initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, which ensures access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
