Two students from the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), Muhammad Rafif Shiddiq Nasution and Sandrina Zati Hulwani, completed an internship at PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM). The internship was held from June 15 to July 24, 2026, in Kuala Tanjung, Sei Suka District, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra.

The internship began with company orientation and an introduction to the INALUM work environment. The students also had the opportunity to become familiar with the smelter area before being assigned to their respective work units.

Both students were assigned to the Smelter Electrical Substation (SES), where they studied the electrical systems of the smelter, maintenance activities, and the equipment and components used in the unit.

This field experience supported SDG 4: Quality Education through contextual learning in an industrial environment. The activity was also relevant to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through strengthening students’ work readiness, as well as SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through exposure to industrial technology and electrical systems.

FT USU remains committed to promoting internships that are relevant to students’ fields of study. Direct engagement in industrial environments is expected to enrich the technical knowledge, discipline, responsibility, and professional readiness of Electrical Engineering students.
