Penang – The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), participated in the IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention (EEC) 2026, held on October 9–10, 2026, at the Iconic Marjorie Hotel, Penang, Malaysia. The convention carried the theme "Strengthening Regional Connectivity through Engineering, Infrastructure and Investment."

During the event, Dr. Ir. Perwira Tarigan, M.Sc., served as a key speaker, positioning FT USU faculty within a regional forum addressing the linkages among engineering, infrastructure development, and investment for regional connectivity.
The FT USU delegation also included Dr. Ir. Ika Puji Hastuty, S.T., M.T., IPM., and Dr. Eng. Ir. Listiani Nurul Huda, M.T., IPU. The delegation's presence created opportunities for perspective exchange with academic and professional participants across the Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) region.

FT USU’s involvement in this regional forum supports the strengthening of academic and professional engineering networks. Insights gained from the forum provide reference points for ongoing discussions on regional infrastructure and connectivity.
This regional participation aligns with Sustainable Development Goals SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through discussions on engineering and infrastructure development for regional connectivity, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by convening cross-border stakeholders within a regional cooperation forum.
