The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), continues to strengthen experiential learning through field internships for students of the Undergraduate Program in Civil Engineering. The activity provides students with an opportunity to become familiar with professional environments and the application of engineering knowledge in the context of construction projects.
The field internship was attended by four students: Aulia Ayuni, Rizqi Maulana Pulungan, Nazwa Muthmainnah Deri, and Andre Fadly Ginting. The internship was conducted from February 2 to April 18, 2026, in collaboration with KSO PP–Urban.
The activity took place at the construction project of the Integrated Oncology Center Building, also known as the Cancer Center, at Adam Malik Hospital, located at Jalan Bunga Lau No. 17, Kemenangan Tani, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan. The project served as a field-based learning environment for Civil Engineering students.
Through the field internship, students had the opportunity to observe professional work processes, understand coordination within a project environment, and connect classroom learning with real-world conditions in the field. This experience is an important part of strengthening students’ readiness to meet the demands of the professional workplace.
The activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education through contextual learning beyond the classroom. Its contribution to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure is reflected in strengthening students’ professional readiness within the construction and infrastructure development sector.
FT USU remains committed to promoting field internships that are relevant to students’ areas of study. Learning collaboration with professional partners is expected to enrich students’ academic experience while fostering a strong sense of responsibility and work ethic among future engineering professionals.
