A team of lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), led by Dr. Salmina Wati Ginting, S.T., M.T., along with other members, carried out a Community Service Program (PkM) titled “From Kampung Nusa to a Tourism Village: Assistance and Preparation of the Master Plan for the Denai Kuala Spice Tourism Village, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.”
This program was conducted in collaboration with Komunitas Rumah Nusa HAPSARI, a women’s organization actively engaged in family empowerment and food security initiatives in North Sumatra. Through this partnership, the community received training in tourism management, creative economy development, and basic architectural skills, enabling them to become independent tourism actors.
Team leader Dr. Salmina Wati Ginting, S.T., M.T. explained, “The preparation of this master plan is a strategic step in developing the village’s potential as a tourism destination by integrating local culture and tourist attractions.”
The activity also involved village officials and the Rumah Nusa community as active partners in drafting the tourism development plan. The Head of Denai Kuala Village expressed appreciation for the initiative, hoping the master plan would serve as a practical roadmap for sustainable tourism development.
Through participatory architectural training and mentoring, the people of Denai Kuala now have a clear direction for developing a self-sustaining, culturally rooted tourism area that strengthens local identity while fostering economic growth.
