Medan, July 15, 2026 – Members of the academic community of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU) attended a public lecture entitled "Innovation and Collaboration of the Young Generation Towards Food Self-Sufficiency" held at the Universitas Sumatera Utara Auditorium. The event featured the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. H. Andi Amran Sulaiman, M.P., as the keynote speaker.

The public lecture was attended by university leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, and students from various faculties. Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, also attended the event alongside the faculty's leadership team, demonstrating FT USU's commitment to strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and the government.

During his presentation, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized the importance of innovation, technology, and youth collaboration in achieving national food self-sufficiency. He encouraged universities to contribute through research, innovation, and the development of highly skilled human resources capable of addressing food security challenges.

For the Faculty of Engineering, the discussion highlighted opportunities for engineering disciplines to contribute to food security through agricultural mechanization, environmental engineering, sustainable energy solutions, and agricultural digitalization. The lecture provided students with valuable insights into the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in strengthening Indonesia's national food system.

This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger by enhancing awareness of food self-sufficiency and food security. It also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by promoting public learning and strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and the government.
