On October 2, 2018, HIMATEK FT-USU organized a guest lecture titled “Design and Engineering.” The speaker for this event was Mr. Ir. Durain Parmanoan Siregar, M.T., a 1993 alumnus of the Chemical Engineering Department at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), who currently serves as General Manager of Design and Engineering at PT. Semen Indonesia (Persero).
In this lecture, he emphasized the significance of design in engineering to advance in the Industry 4.0 era. He also elaborated on the shifting workforce demands by analyzing data from recent years and projecting future trends. This means that Chemical Engineering students are encouraged to master specific fields to secure suitable jobs after graduation.
Additionally, the speaker urged students to develop critical thinking skills to solve various challenges. The lecture further clarified the principles of engineering with a detailed presentation. Specifically, the speaker revisited the fundamentals of chemical engineering and outlined the essential skills that chemical engineering graduates should acquire to succeed after completing their undergraduate studies.
