The Department of Chemical Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted a strategic meeting with the Student Association of Chemical Engineering (HIMATEK USU) on Thursday, 23 July 2026, to discuss the organization's work programs for the current administrative term. The meeting took place in the department's conference room and was attended by the Head of the Department, the Department Secretary, student affairs advisors, and members of the HIMATEK executive board.

The meeting served as an important platform for HIMATEK to present its planned activities while strengthening collaboration with the department. The proposed programs cover a wide range of initiatives, including academic enrichment, student competency development, community engagement, leadership development, and stronger collaboration with alumni and industry partners.

During the constructive discussion, representatives of the department provided recommendations and guidance to ensure that each program would be implemented strategically, sustainably, and with measurable benefits for the academic and personal development of Chemical Engineering students. The session also provided an opportunity to align HIMATEK's initiatives with the department's vision of producing graduates who are innovative, highly competent, and globally competitive.

The collaboration fostered through this meeting reflects the Department of Chemical Engineering's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening student organizations as platforms for academic, leadership, and character development. It also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting transparent, participatory, and effective organizational governance between students and the department.
