The Horas USU Team achieved 2nd place in two categories at the 2024 Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE), the Internal Combustion Diesel Engine Prototype and Urban Internal Combustion Diesel Engine categories. This achievement brought pride to Universitas Sumatera Utara on the national stage.
The Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE) is a national talent competition for fuel-efficient cars, organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), National Achievement Center, General Secretariat of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). This year, KMHE was held from October 5–10, 2024, at the Carnaval Ancol Circuit in Jakarta.
KMHE features 8 competition categories, with dozens of teams from various universities across Indonesia, one of which is the Horas USU Team. From the 8 competition categories in KMHE, the Horas USU Team participated in the Internal Combustion Diesel Engine Prototype and Urban Internal Combustion Diesel Engine categories.
The KMHE 2024 selection process involved the vehicle design report selection and the Virtual Technical Inspection video selection to choose the best teams to compete at the Carnaval Ancol Circuit. The Horas USU Team was selected along with 59 other teams.
At the race at the Carnaval Ancol Circuit, the Horas USU Team, consisting of 17 members (Mechanical Engineering ’20, ’21, ’22, and ’23), led by Wildian Fransiskus Situmorang (Mechanical Engineering ’20) and mentored by two Mechanical Engineering lecturers, Dr. Ir. M. Sabri, M.T., IPM and Dr.Eng Taufiq Bin Nur, S.T., M.Eng., achieved remarkable success, winning 2nd place in the Internal Combustion Diesel Engine Prototype category and 2nd place in the Urban Internal Combustion Diesel Engine category.
