International Summer Course Tourism Planning and Design: North Sumatra Experience Program at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara on August 7-12, 2023 is carried out online and offline. On Monday, August 7, 2023, is started with opening ceremony at the Hall of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera from 09.00 to 10.00 WIB. The opening of the Summer Course was also attended by the Vice Chancellor III of USU, Dean of the USU Faculty of Engineering, Head of the USU Department of Architecture, Chairperson of the 2023 Summer Course activities, lecturers, and teaching staff from the USU Department of Architecture, invited guests, the 2023 summer course committee and 112 (one hundred and twelve) online and offline Summer course 2023 participants from 5 countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Pakistan, and China.
The series of activities at the opening of the 2023 Summer Course began with the opening dance of 8 ethnic cultures of North Sumatra, prayers together, and the initial report from the Chairperson of the 2023 Summer Course, Prof. Ir. Nurlisa Ginting, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM, followed by remarks from the Dean of the USU Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Fahmi, S.T., M.Sc., IPM, and remarks from USU Vice Chancellor III, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. The series of activities to open the International Summer Course Tourism Planning and Design North Sumatra Experience went smoothly and ended with a group photo with all guests and offline and online participants via Zoom Meeting.
After the opening of the 2023 Summer course, it was followed by 11 sessions of exposure to Sustainable tourism learning materials from 9 key speakers from within and outside the country conducted online and one final presentation session from offline participants who will take part in the Summer course activities at Simalem resort and Samosir Island. Beginning with sessions 1-4 on the first day, there were sessions 5-9 on the second day and session 10 on the third day. This was followed by a trip to Simalem resort with 40 offline participants and the entire committee on the 4th day and a presentation of learning materials in the 11th session at Simalem resort. After that, it continued on the 5th day with a visit to Huta Sialagan and Batu Hoda Beach on Samosir Island. On the last day, the final project presentation session of Summer Course 2023 was held for participants who had carried out Summer Course activities and also the closing of Summer Course 2023 activities.
The closing of the International Summer Course Program Tourism Planning and Design: North Sumatra Experience was carried out in the Simalem Resort meeting room attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering USU, the Chairperson of the Summer Course, and the entire Summer Course 2023 committee, The entire series of events and closing was carried out smoothly and again ended with a group photo and with the hope that the Summer Course will be held again with other interesting themes and more participants in the years to come.
