The Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held a public lecture in collaboration with PT Wilo Pumps Indonesia on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, under the theme “Pump Systems Working Principles and Practical Applications.” The activity took place in Rooms 3.01–3.02, Building J20, and was attended by students of Mechanical Engineering, FT USU.

The public lecture featured David Nathaniel, Head of Sales at PT Wilo Pumps Indonesia, as the speaker. Through this activity, students had the opportunity to learn about pump systems not only from a theoretical perspective but also through their practical applications in various industrial settings.
In his presentation, the speaker discussed the working principles of pump systems, their operating characteristics, and various aspects that need to be considered when applying pump technology. The material also provided an overview of how pump systems are used in industrial environments and how proper system selection and operation play an important role in supporting process efficiency.
The discussion on “Pump Systems Working Principles and Practical Applications” was relevant to Mechanical Engineering students because pump systems are essential components in various industrial sectors. Understanding the working principles, performance, efficiency, and applications of pumps can help students connect the concepts learned in lectures with the technical requirements of the professional world.

The collaboration between FT USU and PT Wilo Pumps Indonesia also demonstrated the importance of industry partners in supporting improvements in educational quality. Cooperation with industry is expected to enrich students' learning experiences while helping the study program maintain the relevance of its curriculum to technological developments and workforce needs.
This activity was also related to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 – Quality Education, through strengthening students' learning experiences; SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through introducing industrial technologies and applications; and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration between higher education institutions and industry partners.

Through public lectures delivered by industry practitioners, the Faculty of Engineering USU continues to promote an educational process that is not only academically strong but also responsive to industrial developments. The knowledge and experience gained from this activity are expected to equip Mechanical Engineering students with the competencies needed to prepare for professional challenges in the future.
