As part of the first day of the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held on August 12, 2026, FT USU conducted Material I entitled “Building National Character, Global Leadership, and Awareness of National Defense in Civic and National Life, as well as Strengthening Personal Identity.”

Class A, held in the FT USU Hall, featured Dr. Tuti Sarma Sinaga, S.T., M.T., CPLM.; Class B, held in Room J09.102, featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Rosdanelli Hasibuan, M.T.; Class C, held in Room J09.103, featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustami Syam, MSME; and Class D, held in Room J09.110, featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Hamidah Harahap, M.Sc.

Meanwhile, Class E, held in Room J09.111, was delivered by Dr. Ar. Wahyuni Zahrah, S.T., M.S., IAI; Class F, held at IKATSI Civil Engineering, featured Dr. Ir. Ika Puji Hastuty, S.T., M.T., IPM.; while Class G, held in the Civil Engineering Smart Classroom, featured Dr. Amir Husin, S.T., M.T.

The content of Material I focused on strengthening national character, broadening students’ understanding of global leadership, fostering awareness of national defense, and developing a sense of personal identity within civic and national life. These topics formed part of the students’ initial orientation, emphasizing that higher education involves not only academic achievement but also the development of responsibility and character.

The activity primarily supports SDG 4: Quality Education through character education and capacity building from the beginning of students’ academic journey. Discussions on civic life, responsibility, and awareness of national defense are also relevant to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening civic awareness and values essential to community life.

Through this activity, FT USU reaffirms its commitment to fostering an educational environment that integrates academic competence, character development, and social responsibility.
