Faculty of Engineering lecturers also involved students in community service by installing solar-powered water pumps at the UMAR BIN AL KHATTAB Islamic Boarding School located at Jalan Durung 1, Medan, Terjun, Kec. Medan Marelan, Medan. Community Service activities that are sourced from the Community Service Fund of the USU Community Service Institute and are one of the activities of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education are carried out applying solar panel technology in providing electrical energy sourced from PLTS to run water pumps at Islamic Boarding Schools. The team that carried out this service consisted of 4 (four) lecturers from the USU Faculty of Engineering, namely Ir. Ferry Rahmat Astianta Bukit, S.T., M.T., Ir. Arman Sani, M.T., Ryandika Afdila, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Ivo Andika Hasugian, S.T., M.T., and involved 6 (six) students from the Electrical Engineering Study Program.
The team handed over to the pesantren manager to make good use of the PLTS that had been built. The pesantren manager is very grateful for this activity, especially to the team who has carried out community service activities because it is very helpful, especially in reducing the cost of using electrical energy they must spend every month.
