The Student Creativity Program (PKM) established by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti) has now become an effective means of facilitating the potential of Indonesian students, especially their study, development, and application of the science and technology learned in lectures to the community.

Several public and private universities are competing to reach the national level. Considering that the finalists from each PKM will compete in the National Student Science Week (Pimnas). One of them is the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), which in 2018 succeeded in passing the proposal and was entitled to receive a grant for the Student Creativity Program in Research (PKM-P) with the title of the PKM proposal "KAKA (Activated Carbon from Passion Fruit Skin) as an Adsorbent for Purification of Glycerol By-product of Biodiesel Production" by Bangkit Kali Syahputra S., Elvi Sundari, and Viqry Pramananda. Furthermore, the proposal that has received funding from Kemenristekdikti will enter the next stage. Namely, external monitoring and evaluation (monev), which will be carried out by reviewers from the Ministry of Research and Technology.
