The 2017 PILMAPRES (Selection of Outstanding Students) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was held on April 25, 2016, at the Pusdiklat LPPM USU building. This event was attended by the best undergraduate (S-1) and diploma (D-3) students representing each faculty at USU, who had previously been selected at the faculty level. During the competition, Frigga Monashi Manjow Purba, a student from the Department of Architecture representing the Faculty of Engineering, received the Best Innovation award.

The winners of the 2017 PILMAPRES at the university level for the undergraduate program were Dinda Nazlia Nasution (140904064) from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (ISIP) as the first-place winner, Khairin Ulyani Tarigan (140200039) from the Faculty of Law as the second-place winner, and Veronica (141501131) from the Faculty of Pharmacy as the third-place winner. For the diploma program, the first-place winner was Nurhaliza (152411025) from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), the second-place winner was Miranda I Putri (152600067) from ISIP, and the third-place winner was Cindi Cahaya Pratiwi (142203016) from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences.
