Medan — The USU Faculty of Engineering continues to improve occupational health and safety preparedness within the faculty through the inspection and distribution of portable fire extinguishers (APAR), the installation of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (K3L) stickers, and the inspection of the hydrant system, conducted on 28–29 October 2026.

The activities were carried out by the USU Faculty of Engineering Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Team, targeting several laboratories. The team inspected the condition of the fire extinguishers before distributing them to designated locations as part of efforts to ensure that safety equipment is readily accessible in emergencies.

The K3 Team also inspected the hydrant machinery and system as part of the examination of fire protection facilities within the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara. These inspections were conducted to ensure that the safety equipment was in working condition and ready for use in an emergency.

Regular inspections serve as a preventive measure to identify the condition of safety facilities while ensuring that fire protection equipment meets the needs of the working and learning environment.

In addition to distributing fire extinguishers, the team installed K3L stickers in laboratory areas. The installation of these safety notices is part of efforts to raise laboratory users' awareness of safety procedures, potential hazards, and the importance of implementing a safe working culture during academic activities.

Through these activities, the USU Faculty of Engineering continues to promote the implementation of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (K3L) practices across all academic activities. Safety depends not only on the availability of equipment but also on the awareness and compliance of the entire academic community with established procedures.

In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this activity is related to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, through efforts to create a safe working and learning environment, and SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, through the implementation of occupational health and safety standards within the educational institution.

Through the continuous inspection and maintenance of occupational health and safety facilities, the USU Faculty of Engineering is committed to building a safer, more orderly academic environment that is better prepared for emergencies for students, lecturers, educational staff, and all users of the faculty's facilities.
