Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) achieved an A accreditation for 53 study programs and ISO-9001:2015 certification for 8 programs. By 2039, USU aims for international accreditation in seven TALENTA fields.

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has achieved an A accreditation for 53 out of 154 study programs and ISO-9001:2015 certification for 8 programs. By 2039, USU aims to have all study programs internationally accredited in seven fields (TALENTA): Tropical Science and Medicine, Agroindustry, Local Wisdom, Energy, Natural Resources, Technology, and Arts.

This statement was delivered by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Runtung Sitepu, S.H., M.Hum., in his remarks at the International Accreditation Workshop, which were read by USU's Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustami Syam, M.S., M.E., in the Senate Meeting Room of the BPA USU Building on Friday, April 27.

To achieve this goal, Prof. Bustami emphasized the need for hard work from all members of the USU academic community, particularly the Study Program components. Achieving the highest accreditation nationally and internationally serves as a key metric of the leadership's success, ultimately contributing to the success of faculties and the university.

He further explained that although the current achievements are still far from the targets set for 2019, they are commendable, considering that in 2015, only 17 study programs were accredited A, and none were ISO-certified.

Thus, it is expected that the Faculty and Study Program leaders participating in the workshop will be able to absorb the knowledge presented by the speakers as preparation for the international accreditation process.

The workshop was divided into several topics, including:

  • "Strategies for Preparing UN-QA Self-Assessment" by Dr. Melania Suweni Muntini, M.T.
  • "Introduction to IABEE, Requirements, and Completeness for IABEE Accreditation and Best Practices of ITS Marine Engineering Study Program in IABEE Accreditation" by Dr. Ir. Yoyok Setyo Hadi Widodo, S.T., M.T.
  • "Presentations on the Achievements of USU's Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Programs in IABEE Accreditation" by Ir. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM, and Dr. Ir. Sabri, M.T.

The workshop was attended by USU's Vice Rector II, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp OG (K), deans of faculties within USU, the Rector's expert staff, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, and members of USU's International Accreditation Team. (Public Relations)
