Concentration

The following is a list of specializations contained in Doctoral Program in Architecture and Urban Science

Building Technology

Building Technology

Building Technology in Architecture and Urban Science discusses the technologies associated with the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. It covers various aspects such as the selection and use of building materials, design of building structures, implementation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, plumbing systems, and electrical systems. In this group, students study innovative methods and technologies that can advance the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. This includes the application of renewable energy, passive design strategies, and smart technologies in construction that help optimize energy consumption and reduce environmental impact. The safety and comfort of building occupants is a key focus, so building technology also addresses security, lighting, and acoustic systems. Students learn how to integrate these technologies to create a safe, comfortable, and productive environment for the people who inhabit or use the building. This group plays a crucial role in ensuring that buildings are constructed according to high-quality standards. They also encourage the application of technologies that can help create environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings, in line with modern demands for environmentally sound development.
Urban Planning, Housing, and Design

Urban Planning, Housing, and Design

Urban Planning, Housing, and Design in Architecture and Urban Science is a field that focuses on the holistic aspects of planning, development, and management of cities. This includes spatial planning, transportation, infrastructure, and housing, as well as the provision of efficient and inclusive public facilities. Students in this group learn how to design cities that are sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the population by considering social, economic, and environmental factors. Aspects such as human settlements, efficient transportation, access to basic services, and a healthy and green environment are the main focus. Modern technology is also an integral part of this group. Students learn the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), statistical analysis, simulation, and other technological tools that help in planning and designing more effective and efficient cities. This group plays an important role in creating cities that are safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly for their residents. With respect to the social and economic challenges associated with urban living, the main objective is to improve the quality of life of residents and build sustainable cities for the future. This includes addressing issues such as social inequality, traffic congestion, pollution, and housing shortages.
Environmental Management

Environmental Management

Environmental Management in Architecture and Urban Studies is a field that addresses the complex interactions between humans and the surrounding environment. The group focuses on planning and managing the environment with a sustainable approach, ensuring a good balance between human needs and the preservation of nature. Students in this group learn how to design green spaces, protect natural habitats, and manage water and waste effectively. They consider important aspects such as air quality, noise levels, and lighting in environmental design, with the aim of creating environments that promote human health, comfort, and well-being and support the surrounding ecosystem. The group has also been instrumental in creating solutions to environmental problems associated with urbanization and population growth. As the number of people in cities increases, it is important to adopt sustainable strategies to reduce negative impacts on the environment, such as increased pollution and reduced green space. Promoting concepts such as green architecture, wise water management, and eco-friendly technological innovations is the focus of education within the group.
Architectural Design

Architectural Design

Architectural Design in Architecture and Urban Studies is the core of the creative process of creating buildings and spaces that meet aesthetic, functional, and contextual needs. The group focuses on designing the structure, layout, and design of buildings taking into account a number of factors. Students in this group learn design principles such as efficient layout, proper proportion, appropriate scale, and appropriate use of materials, colors, and textures. Lighting is also an important part of the design, ensuring that the building receives optimal natural and artificial lighting. In addition to paying attention to aesthetic aspects, functional aspects are also highly emphasized. The designed building should meet the needs of the occupants and facilitate the desired activities. Environmental factors, such as energy efficiency and sustainability, are also taken into account to ensure minimal environmental impact. Architectural design also considers the social, cultural, and economic context. Responding to the needs of the community, understanding the local culture, and considering the available budget are important elements in a successful design.
