Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering

The Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that aims to equip students with knowledge and skills in designing, developing, and maintaining electronic and electrical systems. The faculty places a focus on developing students' abilities to become leaders and innovators in the electrical engineering industry, as well as making a positive contribution in facing the challenges of modern technology.

Our vision is to become an International Standard Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering in 2024 that excels in the fields of energy, telecommunications, and computer engineering. Join us at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering to begin a journey in collaborating with electrical engineering industry experts. Upon completion of this study program, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering (S.T) degree.

History

1965

The USU Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering was established in 1965 with 65 students in the initial year and managed by 4 (four) staff, including Ir. Hasyim Rambe, Ir. Tahir Harahap, Ir. Ria Simatupang, and Ir. T. D. Tampubolon.

1986

Initially, the curriculum focused on electric power engineering (strong current). However, in 1986, there was a separation into 2 (two) sub-disciplines: electric power system and electric power system use & equipment. Later on, the regulation & computer subject and the electronics & telecommunication subject were added. Currently, there are 3 (three) concentrations in the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering, including electrical energy engineering, computer systems engineering, and telecommunications engineering.

2020

Until 2020, the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering has had around 3000 alumni. This study program is managed by 28 lecturers with the composition of their educational qualifications: doctoral level with 7 people, master level with 15 people, and those currently running a doctoral program with 6 people. In its management, this study program is supported by 7 administrative staff.

Ikatan Mahasiswa Teknik Elektro (IMTE)

Ikatan Mahasiswa Teknik Elektro (English: Electrical Engineering Student Association), usually abbreviated as IMTE FT USU, offers a series of benefits for students, such as opportunities to develop interests and talents, contribute to campus activities, build relationships, leadership training, and introduction to campus culture. For those of you who are studying at the USU Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering and plan to be part of the organization, you can join IMTE FT USU.

ASATAMA USU

ASATAMA USU is an electric car team founded by students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Established in 2013, the team focuses on study and research related to the development of eco-friendly vehicles with minimum energy consumption. As a student innovation initiative, ASATAMA USU is committed to designing and building highly efficient electric vehicles with zero emissions. Electric cars represent a sustainable mobility solution powered by cheap, accessible, and clean energy sources. Driven by collaboration and the competitive spirit of USU’s engineering students, ASATAMA USU continues to innovate and compete in various national and international energy-efficient vehicle competitions.
