Professional Education Program

The Engineer Professional Education Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is an advanced education program designed for engineering graduates to obtain professional certification. This program aims to produce competent, ethical, innovative, and collaborative engineers while preparing them to take leading roles in various engineering sectors.

The vision of the Engineer Professional Education Program is to become an outstanding and globally competitive engineering education program in terms of scientific knowledge and professional engineering skills. Graduates of this program have access to various sectors, including technology, manufacturing, construction, energy, transportation, automation, software development, and information technology. They also have opportunities in innovative sectors such as artificial intelligence and many others. Students who complete this professional education program will be awarded the professional title of Engineer (Ir.) and will be prepared to contribute to technological and industrial development through their knowledge, competencies, and expertise.

History

2017

To meet national needs and address the challenges of engineer liberalization in Southeast Asia, the Asia-Pacific region, and worldwide, it is urgently necessary to develop and accelerate the preparation of Indonesian engineers who are independent, responsible, adhere to professional ethics, and possess qualifications that meet certification standards. Through Letter Number 710/CC4/KL/2016, the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education assigned Universitas Sumatera Utara to organize the Engineer Professional Education Program (PPI) to develop engineering competencies. Through the implementation of PPI, engineering graduates are expected to obtain the Engineer Professional Certificate and use the professional title of Engineer (Ir.). Furthermore, graduates can take a competency examination to obtain a competency certificate and work professionally as independent Professional Engineers in accordance with Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education and Government Regulation Number 4 of 2014 concerning the Implementation of Education and the Management of Higher Education Institutions.
