Medan, August 6, 2026 — The Chemical Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held a meeting to prepare for accreditation by the Independent Accreditation Institute for Engineering (Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Teknik/LAM Teknik) on August 6, 2026, in Medan. The meeting was attended by program leadership, faculty members, administrative staff, and the accreditation team.

The meeting focused on evaluating and finalizing the accreditation documents. Discussions covered the refinement of program performance documents, the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, the achievements of the university's three pillars of higher education—education, research, and community service—as well as research and community service outputs, partnerships, governance, and the strengthening of the internal quality assurance system.

Each team presented updates on the preparation of the required documents and identified strategic follow-up actions ahead of the assessment process. The coordination was aimed at ensuring consistency among the data, supporting evidence, and division of responsibilities to strengthen the Chemical Engineering Program’s readiness for the accreditation process.

Coordinated preparation is expected to help the program maintain consistency between the implementation of its academic activities and the performance evidence submitted to the accreditation body. However, as the assessment results were not yet available, the meeting cannot be considered evidence of an improved accreditation ranking or successful accreditation outcome.

The activity supports SDG 4—Quality Education through efforts to strengthen quality assurance in learning and higher education. The emphasis on governance, documentation, and team coordination also contributes to SDG 16—Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, particularly by promoting effective and accountable institutional processes.

Through these preparations, FT USU reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement in education, research, and community service. These efforts are expected to support the delivery of a Chemical Engineering Program that remains relevant to developments in science and technology as well as the evolving needs of industry.
