Medan — Another notable achievement has been earned by a student from the Chemical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Ruly Vairuz (Student ID 250405049) successfully passed the selection process and was selected as one of the 50 top university students from across Indonesia to participate in the Pertamina Youth Program (PYP) 2026, held in Bogor from August 4–9, 2026.

The 2026 Pertamina Youth Program carried the theme “Youth Driving the Energy Transition for National Self-Reliance.” The program serves as a platform for young people to broaden their knowledge and strengthen their capacity to understand Indonesia’s energy sector, while encouraging youth participation in addressing the challenges of the energy transition and advancing national energy self-reliance.

The program brought together 50 university students from across Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, along with 22 representatives from the Federation of Pertamina United Workers’ Unions (FSPPB). Throughout the program, Ruly received comprehensive insights into energy sovereignty and resilience, the strategic role of youth in achieving energy self-sufficiency, upstream and downstream oil and gas operations, refining, shipping and seafaring, geothermal energy, energy risk management, as well as the application of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

In addition to technical knowledge in the energy sector, participants received training in transformative leadership, personal development, journalism, and public relations. These sessions provided broader perspectives on the importance of leadership capacity, communication, innovation, and youth preparedness in responding to changes within the energy sector.

Ruly Vairuz’s selection as one of the 50 top participants nationally in PYP 2026 is a notable achievement for the Chemical Engineering Program and the Faculty of Engineering USU. His participation also demonstrates the ability of USU students to compete in national-scale youth development programs while engaging with strategic issues related to energy and sustainable development.

The achievement contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

The Chemical Engineering Program at USU extends its congratulations and appreciation to Ruly Vairuz for his achievement and participation in the Pertamina Youth Program 2026. The knowledge and experience gained through the program are expected to serve as valuable foundations for his continued growth, inspire fellow students, and contribute meaningfully to USU and Indonesia’s pursuit of national energy self-reliance.
