Five undergraduate students from the Electrical Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), are undertaking an industry internship at PT Permata Hijau Palm Oleo. The internship is scheduled to take place from June 22 to August 1, 2026.

The participating students are Aqdar Ahmad Hasyim, Tsaqfan Zharif, Hidayatullah Al Rasyid, Zahra Firjatullah, and Dwi Putro Hafsari Br. Ginting.

Occupational safety is an important component of the internship. The company requires all participants to provide and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, safety helmets, and safety goggles, throughout their internship activities.

Through the program, students have the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into workplace culture, safety procedures, and industrial operations. The experience complements their academic learning while helping them understand how engineering competencies are applied in a professional industrial environment.

The activity primarily supports SDG 4—Quality Education through contextual learning and hands-on industry experience. It also contributes to SDG 8—Decent Work and Economic Growth by strengthening students’ workplace readiness, understanding of professional practices, and awareness of occupational safety in industrial settings.

FT USU remains committed to providing internship opportunities that strengthen the connection between academic learning and the evolving needs of the professional workforce.
