Medan, September 29, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering USU facilitated the Independent Data Collection for the 2026 Economic Census for out-of-town students. The activity took place at the Faculty of Engineering Hall and involved 12 officers from Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

The data collection was part of the joint-filling mechanism known as “Ngibar,” guided by BPS North Sumatra Province. The program aimed to complete the coverage of household data collection, including students who have migrated to pursue their education.

Students living in dormitories, boarding houses, and rented accommodation were among the target groups for the independent data collection. BPS officers assisted participants in accessing and entering their data through mobile devices.

Through the activity at FT USU, a total of 143 out-of-town students were recorded. This figure represents the data collection output on the day of implementation and should not be interpreted as the total population of out-of-town students at FT USU.

The provision of facilities and assistance helped students participate in the national statistical initiative. The collected data is expected to contribute to the completeness of the 2026 Economic Census coverage, in accordance with the objectives stated in the BPS letter.

This activity supports SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between FT USU and BPS in data collection. Its relevance to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions is reflected in its support for official data collection processes that can strengthen the information base for public policy and service delivery.
