Medan — October 15, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and the Medan City Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) signed a Cooperation Agreement focusing on education, research, and community service.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T. (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara) and Benny Iskandar, S.T., M.T. (Head of Medan City BRIDA). The implementation of the Cooperation Agreement will be centered on the Undergraduate and Master's Programs in Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

In the field of education, the collaboration includes the development of joint programs, such as research activities, projects, community service programs, and surveys to support curriculum implementation. This framework connects the learning process with regional development needs.
In the field of research and innovation, both parties agreed to explore opportunities for studies, development, implementation, and investment in innovations relevant to Medan City. The findings may also be used as input for policy studies and regional development planning.
Community service is directed toward the development of Medan City through the technology, innovation, and creative economy sectors, as well as the implementation of outreach, education, and human resource development in science and technology.
The Cooperation Agreement is valid for three years, and its implementation will be monitored and evaluated once a year. Each program still requires the preparation of a work plan and further coordination; therefore, development impacts have not yet been reported as measured outcomes.

This collaboration primarily supports SDG 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities, through research and policy studies on Medan City's development. SDG 4—Quality Education is relevant through project-based and research-based learning, while SDG 17—Partnerships for the Goals is reflected in the collaboration between higher education institutions and local government.
