An Architecture lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), Ar. Selly Veronica, S.T., M.T., IAI, conducted an academic visit to Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) at the invitation of Widiyani, Ph.D. During the visit, Selly Veronica participated in a series of social experiments along Jalan Alkateri and visited an exhibition held at the ITB Ganesha Campus in Bandung.

The activities were part of the International Architecture and Urbanism Workshop: City of Senses 2026, a collaborative initiative involving Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Indonesia, and The University of Hong Kong. The workshop was supported by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) and the Local Architecture Bureau.

The program focused on placemaking, social experimentation, and observations of how people experience, use, and interpret urban spaces. It provided a platform for academics and participants to explore the relationship between people, the built environment, and the social and cultural characteristics of urban areas.

The visit also served as an opportunity to exchange ideas with academics from various institutions, including Prof. Thomas Tsang of The University of Hong Kong; Widiyani, Ph.D., Dr. Fath Nadizti, and Dr. Ir. Christina Gantini of Institut Teknologi Bandung; and Kristanti Dewi Paramita, Ph.D., Prof. Yandi Andri Yatmo, and Dr. Rini Suryantini of Universitas Indonesia.

The discussions marked an initial step toward building academic networks and exploring opportunities for collaboration in education, research, workshops, and knowledge exchange. Although the discussions remain at an early stage, they have the potential to expand the involvement of the FT USU Architecture Study Program in both national and international academic initiatives.

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, continues to encourage its lecturers and study programs to establish productive academic networks at both the national and international levels. These exploratory collaborations are expected to create new opportunities for educational activities, research partnerships, workshops, and knowledge exchange that will benefit the academic community as well as society at large.
