Medan, 30 July 2026 — The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held a meeting to discuss the formation of the FT USU Waste Management Consulting Team in the Dean’s Office on the second floor of the Faculty of Engineering. The meeting marked an initial step toward developing a more structured approach to waste management and treatment within the faculty.
The meeting brought together academics from various disciplines within FT USU. This cross-disciplinary involvement is expected to generate comprehensive perspectives and solutions encompassing technical, environmental, management, and technological aspects tailored to on-site needs.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., Dean of FT USU; Prof. Dr. Ir. Ilmi, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Fatimah, M.T.; Dr. Ir. Bambang Trisakti, M.Si.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Tulus Burhanuddin Sitorus, S.T., M.T., IPM.; Dr.Eng. Ir. Taufiq Bin Nur, S.T., M.Eng.Sc.; and Yasmine Anggia Sari, S.Si., M.T.
The main agenda focused on discussing the concept and developing a model for waste management and treatment. The discussion served as an important step in mapping existing waste-related challenges, identifying management needs, and formulating alternative solutions that can be implemented effectively and sustainably.
The establishment of the consulting team is expected to strengthen FT USU’s role in contributing academic expertise to addressing environmental challenges. The team will also serve as a collaborative platform for academics to develop recommendations based on scientific studies, appropriate technologies, and actual conditions in the field.
Through this initiative, FT USU reaffirms its commitment to creating a cleaner, better-managed, and more sustainable campus environment. The initial discussions are expected to provide a foundation for developing future programs and follow-up measures for waste management within the Faculty of Engineering.
