His appointment was established through Rector's Decree of USU Number 4128/UN5.1.R/SK/HK.14.03/2026 dated September 3, 2026. He is responsible for conducting guest lectures, providing enrichment of academic materials and international perspectives, and supporting the development of learning and academic collaboration at the Master's Program in Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Engineering USU.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asrul Mahjuddin is an Associate Professor/Lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). His academic background includes architectural education at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Canterbury, University of Westminster, Universiti Teknologi MARA, as well as a PhD from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

His academic expertise includes architectural design and theory, social and high-rise housing, sustainable building design, housing, project management and construction, architectural education, as well as sustainable architecture and urban development. His research track record also includes green building, natural ventilation, walkability, and spatial practices.

At the Master's Program in Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Engineering USU, he strengthens learning through knowledge transfer, international perspectives, and academic collaboration. These contributions broaden students' perspectives on architecture, urban housing, the built environment, and sustainable development while strengthening the academic network between Universitas Sumatera Utara and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
