The availability and readiness of safety and first aid facilities are essential to creating a safe campus environment. Equipment such as portable fire extinguishers, safety signs, and first aid kits needs to be available and regularly inspected to support an initial response in the event of an emergency.

As part of its efforts to strengthen occupational health, safety, and environmental (OHS&E) measures, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), conducted an inspection of OHS&E facilities on July 30, 2026. The activity included inspecting and installing portable fire extinguishers and OHS&E safety signs, as well as replenishing supplies in first aid kits across the Faculty.

Documentation of the activity shows education personnel wearing OHS&E vests inspecting the condition of portable fire extinguishers and organizing first aid supplies. The inspection served as an operational measure to ensure that safety equipment was placed in designated locations and that basic first aid supplies were available for use as needed.

The installation of OHS&E signs also supports the dissemination of safety information and the implementation of orderly practices in the workplace. The documented signs included those related to smoking prohibitions, cleanliness, and the locations of safety and first aid equipment.

The activity supports FT USU’s efforts to create a campus environment that is safe, healthy, and responsive to potential emergencies. However, the available materials do not provide information on the number of portable fire extinguishers, detailed installation locations, the list of supplies in each first aid kit, or the results of technical inspections. Therefore, the overall readiness of all safety facilities cannot yet be fully determined.
