MEDAN, September 30, 2026 – The Mining Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU) continues to strengthen its partnership network to accelerate institutional development while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This commitment was demonstrated during a strategic coordination meeting held on Monday, September 21, 2026, in the Vice Dean's Office at FT USU.
The meeting was led by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU, Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. Also in attendance were the Secretary of the Mining Engineering Study Program, Edi Yasa Ardiansyah, S.T., M.T., and the Manager for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU, Emma Patricia Bangun, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D.
This coordination meeting addressed concrete steps toward achieving sustainable development targets through the consolidation of three strategic partnership agendas:
Quality Education (SDG 4): Following up on the partnership with the Underground Mining Training Center (BDTBT) to facilitate the enhancement of technical competencies, certifications, and specialized skills for students in underground mining with high safety standards.
Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9): Preparing the agenda for a follow-up meeting with PT Dairi Prima Mineral (DPM) to promote applied research synergies, the implementation of modern mining technology, and the provision of industrial internship opportunities for students.
Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17): Planning inter-institutional academic collaboration with the Earth Sciences Study Program, Faculty of Technology & Science, Universitas Jambi, while consolidating a multi-stakeholder (triple helix) partnership model among academia, government institutions, and industry.
In his guidance, Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of sustainable partnership governance. He stated that the collaborations established must deliver a tangible impact on enhancing research quality, curriculum relevance, and graduate competencies.
As a new study program within FT USU, officially established in 2025, Mining Engineering continues to proactively build an extensive cooperation network. By integrating SDG principles into every partnership agenda, the Mining Engineering Study Program at FT USU is optimistic about developing competitive, highly skilled human resources capable of addressing future challenges in the mining industry.
