The Undergraduate Program in Chemical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has been established since 1979 and is known as one of the study programs with the highest passing grade at USU. This program aims to explore chemical principles by applying engineering techniques to produce and manage various chemical processes in industry. Students will explore the basic principles of chemistry and apply them on a large scale to develop chemical processes, such as oil and gas processing, drug production, and the manufacture of other chemical products. The program integrates academic knowledge with field practice and research, preparing students holistically to handle challenges in the industrial world.

To become a superior and competitive Chemical Engineering Study Program in the field of Environmental Process Technology Based on Local Potential at the global level.
- Building a conducive academic atmosphere in the learning process, research, and community service for the development of graduates with BINTANG personalities.
- Organizing Chemical Engineering Higher Education based on an output-based curriculum to produce graduates who are able to compete at a global level.
- Developing research and community service oriented to the problems of environmentally sound process technology based on TALENTA in a sustainable manner for the welfare of society.
- Strengthening and expanding national and international networks to improve the activities of the three pillars of higher education in a sustainable manner.

- Producing graduates who are moral, entrepreneurial, and professional ethics, able to work together in multidisciplinary teams, confident, innovative, able to develop themselves, and able to compete at a global level through an effective and efficient learning process.
- Producing scientific works derived from local potential-based research activities that are disseminated through scientific journals and national and international seminar activities.
- Producing innovative works derived from local potential-based research activities that can be proposed to obtain intellectual property rights.
- Producing community service activities useful in promoting community welfare and empowerment through seminars, problem-solving, or training activities so that the community is able to solve its problems independently and sustainably.
- Strengthening strong national and international networks to support research activities, especially those based on local potential.

Information technology and digitalization have now spread to almost all fields and institutions, including at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Of course, as part of USU, the Department of Chemical Engineering is also involved in these activities. One form of application is constructing the USU Department of Chemical Engineering website.
The presence of this site in the wilderness of cyberspace is expected to be the key to opening the door of the USU Department of Chemical Engineering's information "house." In other words, this site is an information storefront of the USU Department of Chemical Engineering. In the future, this site is also planned as a means of communication between the academic community of the USU Department of Chemical Engineering, for example, communication between lecturers and students in the form of providing e-learning modules that students can access easily and effectively.
As a work of humans, this site is not free from shortcomings, such as incomplete data. The information items contained in this site are also not fully complete as expected. However, over time, the head of the study program will always encourage and facilitate every effort to improve the site and move it in a more perfect direction. Every member of the academic community of the USU Department of Chemical Engineering is also expected to support these efforts, at least submitting constructive criticism to the manager of this site or to the leadership of the Department.
