Master's Program in Industrial Engineering

The Master's Program in Industrial Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) offers deepening in the fields of systems engineering, operations management, performance analysis, and production strategy. Students will gain a deep understanding of management concepts and techniques applied in a modern industrial environment.

Graduates of the USU Master's Program in Industrial Engineering are expected to make a significant contribution in improving the competitiveness of local and global industries and leading the transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient industrial future.

History

2002

The opening of the USU Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering was initiated by the Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering Undergraduate which has a long history in industrial engineering education because it is the first Industrial Engineering Study Program in Indonesia. The USU Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering was established in 2002 in accordance with Director General of Higher Education Letter No. 1599/D/T/2002 and is the first Industrial Engineering Master's Degree Program in Sumatra.

2003

The first lecture was held in 2003 with 30 students accepted. The head of the USU Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering at that time was Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukaria Sinulingga, M.Eng as chairman and Prof. Dr. Ir. Harmein Nasution, MSIE as secretary. Lectures were held at the USU Postgraduate Building joining Masters and Doctoral Programs from other fields of science.

2009

In 2009, the Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering was opened and the management of the Master’s and Doctoral Study Programs was under the leadership of a study program chairman and a study program secretary.

2017

Along with the growing number of Master and Doctoral Program students at USU and the availability of good facilities at the Faculty of Engineering, the implementation of lectures and administration since 2017 has been carried out in the USU Faculty of Engineering building.

2021

Since October 1, 2021, the Master and Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering has been led by Prof. Ir. Rosnani Ginting, M.T., Ph.D. as the head and Dr. Ir. Dini Wahyuni, M.T. as the secretary of the USU Master Program in Industrial Engineering. Currently, the USU Industrial Engineering Masters and Doctoral Study Programs are led by a Head of Study Program, a secretary of the Masters Study Program, and a secretary of the Doctoral Study Program.

To become a Master of Industrial Engineering Study Program that has high competence in productivity engineering in manufacturing and services and excels in competing regionally and globally.

  1. Organizing high quality educational activities.
  2. Developing lecturers, both in knowledge and skills, especially in productivity engineering for businesses in the manufacturing and service sectors.
  3. Maintaining and strengthening cooperation networks with the business sector as a source of data and information about the needs of Master of Industrial Engineering graduates as well as making it an industrial engineering research laboratory for lecturers and students.
  4. Promoting research collaboration between lecturers-students, between Master of Industrial Engineering Study Programs, and between Master of Industrial Engineering Study Programs and the business world, especially related to the scientific field of industrial engineering in the form of applied research.
  5. Promoting community service and the business world to face global competition by applying research results, especially in productivity engineering.
  6. Sustainably develop the organizational system, curriculum, and management of the teaching and learning process of the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering so that it is effective in creating innovative and globally competitive graduates.

Himpunan Mahasiswa S2/S3 Teknik Industri

The Master’s and Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering have a formal student association called the Student Association of Industrial Engineering Master and Doctoral Program (Himpunan Mahasiswa S2/S3 Teknik Industri), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, or abbreviated as HIMTI S2/S3 FT USU. Due to a vacancy, there is currently no official board of management. The formation of the board of management will be planned at the congress in April 2024.
