Three students of the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dimas Pantoza, Binsar David Sitompul, and Muhammad Rafli Arrayyan, carried out practical training at PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan. The activity took place from July 1–31, 2026, in Duri, Riau.
The students were assigned to the Power Generation and Transmission (PG&T) unit. During the activity, they studied and analyzed electrical systems at substations and power lines in the areas designated by the company. They also studied capacitor banks in relation to improving system reliability and managing reactive power in distribution networks.
This practical training supports SDG 4—Quality Education through contextual learning in the energy industry. Understanding power systems is related to SDG 7—Affordable and Clean Energy, while the analysis of electrical infrastructure is relevant to SDG 9—Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
FT USU continues to encourage the implementation of practical training aligned with students’ fields of study. Direct involvement in an industrial environment is expected to strengthen the analytical skills, technical knowledge, and professional readiness of Electrical Engineering students.
