Two students of the Undergraduate Program in Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Putra Asyqar and Muhammad Afriadi, carried out practical training at PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP). The activity took place from July 1 to September 1, 2026, in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency, Riau.
During the practical training, the students participated in learning activities on preventive maintenance and hot-spot inspections of electrical equipment. They also gained experience in replacing three-phase electric motors and contactors at the motor control center (MCC), replacing SIMOCODE devices and fuses, as well as implementing lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures. These procedures are an important part of controlling hazardous energy during maintenance work.
This activity supports SDG 4—Quality Education through contextual, industry-based learning. The introduction to work procedures and safety is relevant to SDG 8—Decent Work and Economic Growth, while learning about electrical equipment maintenance is related to SDG 9—Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
FT USU continues to encourage practical training that is aligned with study program competencies and industry needs. The activity is expected to strengthen the technical skills, safety awareness, discipline, and professional readiness of Electrical Engineering students.
