The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), received a visit from the Medan Industrial Training Center (Balai Diklat Industri/BDI Medan) on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The meeting was received by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU, Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., together with staff from the relevant units as well as staff from the Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs units.

The Medan Industrial Training Center presented opportunities for collaboration in organizing industrial vocational education and training as well as competency testing for final-year students, alumni, and faculty members of FT USU. The training programs are aimed at enhancing skills, knowledge, and work attitudes by referring to the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) and/or competency standards relevant to the national industrial sector.

The meeting served as an initial forum for socialization and coordination regarding the potential collaboration.

This initiative primarily supports SDG 4: Quality Education by expanding opportunities for competency-based education and training. It is also relevant to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through strengthening competency readiness for the workforce, as well as SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the exploration of collaboration between higher education institutions and industrial human resource development institutions.

FT USU is committed to expanding partnerships that support competency development, work readiness, and stronger alignment between higher education and industry needs.
